Vision of the Center for Teaching and Learning - A Continuing Conversation of Who We Are and Where We Are Going

As The Center for Teaching and Learning looks ahead and evolves to become the Center of Academic Life at Century College, it will

  • Build an interconnected Century community of professional educators who view themselves as learners as well as teachers.
  • Establish a physical location where colleagues can meet to engage in conversation that promotes community among faculty
  • Build programming based on the phases of career development including
    • New Faculty Institute
    • Established Practitioner Institute
    • Master Teacher Institute
    • Retired Faculty Members
  • Recognize the changing needs of faculty through career development that focuses on
    • Content areas
    • Pedagogical skills
    • Collegial culture and other working climate issues
    • Parker Palmer's philosophical view of the "Heart of the Teacher"
  • Increase faculty-wide participation in CTL programming by focusing on matters of individual interest
  • View the growth and development of CTL with a circular graphic as its new symbol for
    • what we have done in the past
    • what we are currently doing
    • what we would like to do
  • Establish CTL as a clearinghouse for all activities related to teaching and learning
    • Previous initiatives
    • Current "stand alone" initiatives, i.e.: Service Learning, Seed, Assessment, E-Learning
    • Future initiatives (not yet fully developed or even dreamed of): i.e.: Formation, Links to Staff Development

All Century Faculty Members are encouraged to continuing the discussion of mission, vision and value statements by contacting the CTL Leaders.
